Impulse Insider - What’s Happening In NYC this week (2/24-3/2)

February 26, 2014

In the “City that never sleeps” there are plenty of things to do and so as your Event Experts, we decided to highlight some of this week’s happenings to keep you in the know and to help you fill your calendars with different and exciting events taking place right here at home (or while you are in town):

  • Celebrate Johnny Cash’s 82nd Birthday at The Bell House in Gowanus. This has been a can’t-miss event for the past few years and this will be no exception. There will be live music (of course) as well as old video clips, DJs and more. As of 2/26 tickets are still available for Friday night but don’t wait; the Man in Black’s bash only comes once a year!
  • New York Times Travel Show at the Jacob Javits Center will be open from Friday to Sunday. Come and see exhibits on over 500 exciting locations. There will be seminars and guest speakers giving travel tips and answering questions; culinary demonstrations and wine tastings; plus you can stock up on travel books and enter to win one of 30+ trips overseas.
  • While Winter may need never ending, The South Street Seaport’s ice skating rink is closing for the season on Sunday. If you haven’t had the opportunity to shuffle around on a slippery pond this winter give it a try. Even if you aren’t an aspiring Olympian the hot chocolate afterwards will be worth the trip.

The Oscars are this Sunday night and if you aren’t already attending (or hosting) a viewing party, but want to get out and enjoy all the Hollywood Glam without all the Paparazzi, here are a few of NYC’s top Viewing Party spots:

  • 230 Fifth hosts an elegant party complete with champagne and hors d’oeuvres. They do have a dress code so don’t leave it to chance, dress to impress!
  • Riedel Dance Theater hosts a party at Chelsea Cinemas. All you can eat popcorn and sodas along with trivia, running commentary, and of course the awards show playing on the big screen.

Have a great week and check back with us next week for more Impulse Insider tips on what’s happening in and around New York City!
