When Chefs Club New York moved to Mulberry Street, and within eyesight of The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, they knew there was no better way to become part of the community than to get involved in the 88th Feast of San Gennaro. The Feast spans the course of 11 days and sees foot traffic of over one million people from all over not only Manhattan, but from all over the world, who come to celebrate the history, culture and festivities taking place in iconic “Little Italy”. The Impulse Team was called in to bring life to the Basilica’s vision of creating a sense of being in the heart of Italy itself.
Custom Bistro tables and chairs were brought in and shaded by large umbrellas to provide not only a comfortable and more quiet place to sit and enjoy the famous sausage and pepper skewers and cannoli, but also a lovely viewing of the Basilica itself, especially as it transformed into a beautiful shade of green, getting more and more vibrant as the sun set each night. Specialty outdoor lighting was also utilized so that at night the street itself also transformed into the cobblestone ones so well known in Italy.
A beautiful photographic documentary showcasing the history of the area was also featured along the sides of The Basilica’s grounds. Alec Baldwin hosted a special afternoon dedicated to these images and the history of The Festival and he addressed the crowd from the steps of The Parish House. Mayor De Blasio and Governor Cuomo also made a special appearance to visit one of the tent’s and enjoy the famous Arancini while they toured the Feast.
The Impulse Team was on site for the entirety of the 11 days and is so excited to come back and work with such incredible people on this fantastic event in 2015!
